Implementation: Educate staff during new hire orientation, and periodically, regarding appropriate behaviors while representing the facility. Staff should be alert to coworker, resident, and visitor negative behaviors and advise their supervisor.

Audit: Facility management should periodically survey staff for concerns or issues. Internal and external audits should ensure that all staff concerns have been reviewed and addressed.

A nursing home employee in Georgia threatened to dismember co-workers, according to a police report. An officer said a disgruntled kitchen employee at the nursing home made threats toward co-workers.The employees were asked to write statements about the incident. “On two of the witness statement sheets, it shows that [the disgruntled employee] has been allegedly stating that ‘She wants to cut people up and feed them to the residents at the nursing home,’” the officer stated. He told nursing home staff to contact 911 if they had any further issues with the disgruntled employee.That employee has been suspended, according to reports.
